The Anstruther Fish Bar and Restaurant in Fife has been awarded the title of 'Best fish and chip shop in the UK.'
Robert and Alison Smith have run the fish bar and restaurant in Fife since 2003. Since then they have won the Scottish Fish and Chip Shop of the Year four times and were UK runners-up in 2006.
Situated on the attractive harbour front in Anstruther people can enjoy their fish and chips on the seating area opposite the shop while listening to the sounds of the sea and watching the local creel boat fishermen landing their daily catch of crab and lobster.
The 52-seater restaurant offers fantastic views over the Firth of Forth. There is an informal, relaxed and friendly atmosphere for both diners in the restaurant and those waiting to takeaway.
The competition takes place once a year. Scotland won the 'Best Fish and Chip Shop in the UK' award last year as well. The award was taken by Townhead Café in Biggar, Lanarkshire.
The various stages of the competition includes a mystery inspection, a mystery shopper, tasting tests and shop inspections. Everything is examined including the fish and chips, bookwork, hygiene and customer service.
