State Benefits

State benefits mean money paid to you by the state and include income support, child benefit, job seeker's allowance, disability benefit, housing benefit and council tax benefit.

Am I entitled to state benefits?

This is a complicated issue and depends on individual circumstances.

The general rule is:

If you have come to Scotland and are not working (even if you are EEA national), you should be able to support yourself without having to claim public funds.
