Hospital

If you need to go to hospital your GP will usually refer you to the appropriate specialist. There may be a waiting list for certain tests and procedures.

If there is an emergency you can go straight to the Accident and Emergency department (A&E) either by phoning an ambulance using 999 or by traveling directly to an A&E department at a hospital.

Treatment in hospital is free of charge and is paid for by taxation.
