And if you're coming from overseas, you won't be alone. Stirling is home to students from over 50 countries worldwide. In fact, 13% of students at Stirling University are from overseas. Scotland Is The Place visited the campus to find out more...
"I wanted to study in English and I fancied Scotland more than England. I chose Stirling because the campus appealed to me – the whole studying on campus, living on campus and having the castle and the golf course!"
"I wanted to be somewhere where I felt a community sort of atmosphere and that's what I've found in Scotland and in Stirling specifically. At the minute I think we've got students from 80 different countries. I'm settled here and it's definitely somewhere I can see myself staying."
"First of all I didn't want to come to uni here because my Dad went here, years ago. And then I came through and it just seemed dead relaxed. I think Scotland is a good country to live in and be brought up in."
"I'm studying film, media and psychology. Hopefully I'll be able to stay in Scotland to find a media job. There might be an opportunity to study in America, so maybe I'll do that."
"Stirling is really good. You can't walk a hundred yards without seeing somebody you know. It's friendly and there's a sort of community feel about it. On campus, there's so many cultures, all nationalities. For a small city like Stirling it's got a fair cosmopolitan side and attitude."
"I'm studying ecology. Stirling was the best university that had my course. There are a lot of international students here. In fact, there was someone from Alaska on my course!"
"I like Stirling because you're right beside the Highlands but you've still got Glasgow and Edinburgh really close, so you've got the best of both worlds. The best thing about Scotland is the people. They're friendly, approachable."
"I'm doing psychology, in my fourth year, and I play in a band. I think there's a spotlight up here just now, with bands like Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol, and that's really working in our favour. So, yeah, I think the band can make a go of it up here."
"Stirling has been brilliant. As soon as I came up and saw it, I thought I really want to go to this uni. I did live in town last year and that was lovely but it's not the same as living on campus. It's just so pretty."
