Name: Laurianne Giteau
Age: 25
Born: Le Mans, France
Lived in Scotland: Three years
Laurianne is working on a temporary basis for The Scottish Government in Glasgow based within The Relocation Advisory service.
Not only have her excellent administrative skills been gratefully received, Laurianne has been called upon to assist with translation work on an informal basis.
This is only until she finds her dream job working with a charity organisation. She says, "I want to wake up in the morning with a goal to help people less fortunate, and to go to sleep feeling satisfied with my contribution in that respect."
She first visited Scotland as a rebellious teenager. Laurianne was unhappy about her parents' decision to pack her off to a farm in Dumfries. But the warm welcome of her host family combined with the beauty of Scottish countryside inspired Laurianne. Her attitude to Scotland changed after that holiday.
On returning to France Laurianne kept her passion for Scotland alive by researching it's history and culture. She admits that she became almost obsessive about returning to live in Scotland. "I knew that I could have a wonderful life in Scotland," she says. "So I took the opportunity of coming here to complete my work placement as part of my masters degree in business and foreign language."
On completion of her studies in France and Spain, Laurianne found that work placement in Aberdeen. Having sampled life in Aberdeen, Dumfries, Perth and Glasgow, Laurianne chose to settle in Glasgow. Her love of the arts, lively nightlife and shoe shops made Glasgow the obvious choice.
Life in the city can be hectic so Laurianne takes every opportunity to roam the Highlands and Lowlands in her spare time. Since she lives close to Kelvingrove, Laurianne visits the park and museum regularly as well. "I think Scotland is a great country," she says. "I love travelling in the countryside; the west coast of Scotland is amazing!"
In addition to learning Glasgwegian dialect from her colleagues, Laurianne has sampled many traditional Scottish dishes. But she remains loyal to the food of her home country. "I really miss French food," she says. "I know that Scottish food is great too, but in France the quality is exceptional. Apart from shoe shops, my favourite shop is I.J.Mellis in Glasgow. Delicious!"
