National Health Service

The National Health Service (NHS) was created in 1948 and is now the largest organisation in Europe.

Most services offered by the NHS are free especially to children, however you may need to pay for some services such as dental care or optical care.

This section will tell you about the different areas of the NHS and who is eligible for free treatment.

It is important that you register with a GP (General Practitioner – Doctor) when you arrive in the UK since they will usually be your first point of contact for healthcare services.
