About Fife

The Kingdom of Fife is surrounded by the Firth of Forth, the Firth of Tay and the North Sea, offering miles of beautiful sandy beaches to a population of around 351,000 people.

An area of great historic importance, the Kingdom of Fife was once the centre of secular and religious power in Scotland. Dunfermline was the ancient capital long before Edinburgh. Many Scottish kings and queens including Robert the Bruce are buried in Dunfermline Abbey.

Fife is also home to Scotland's oldest university, St Andrews and has four further education colleges in Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Cupar. 

The area’s towns include Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, Dunfermline, Rosyth and St Andrews as well as pretty East Neuk fishing villages such as Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, Elie and St Monans along the Fife Coastal Path.

There are 47 golf courses, including the oldest in St Andrews. As well as being the home of golf, St Andrews boasts the largest cathedral in Scotland.
